Hong Kong Victoria Music Centre
The Hong Kong Victoria Music Centre was established in 1979. Actively promoting music education, it offers lessons in piano, violin and brass instruments (trumpet, French horn, etc.). Repair and adjustment services for brass instruments has been available since 2015.
Mr. Fung Kai Man
Fung has served as the president of the Asia Pacific Band Directors Association, the vice president of the China Trumpet Association, the president of the Hong Kong Band Directors Association and the chairman of the Hong Kong Trumpet Guild. He also serves as an overseas consultant for the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Fung joined the Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra at the age of 14, and toured with the group to perform in England and France. He studied trumpet, piano and music composition at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and was among its first graduates in 1987.
In 1990, he founded the Hong Kong Sinfonietta with colleagues and served as the orchestra's principal trumpet for 17 years. He has also appeared as soloist with various orchestras in Hong Kong and Macau including the Lim Kek Han Concert Orchestra, Hong Kong Music Institute Orchestra (Haydn's Trumpet Concerto), Cecilian Singers and Orchestra (Bach's Second Brandenburg Concerto) , Hong Kong Oratorio Society (Handel Messiah, Bach Oratorio No. 51), Hong Kong Sinfonietta (Haydn's Trumpet Concerto, Hummel Trumpet Concerto, Copland's Quiet City, Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1 , Vivaldi's Double Trumpet Concerto), Macau Chamber Orchestra (Purcell's Trumpet Sonata), Hong Kong Festival Wind Orchestra (Ponchielli's Trumpet Concerto) and Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra (FD Weber's Variations and Verdi's Adagio) etc. In 2001, Fung has given a recital with antique cornets from the 19th century in the Macau Band Festival.
Besides performing, Fung is also active in teaching and conducting. In addition to serving as guest conductor for the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra, he has been the conducting the school orchestra and band of the CCC Kei Wan Primary School (Aidrich Bay). Over the years, his students and ensembles have won numerous awards in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festivall and the Hong Kong Youth Music Festival. He has also led the Kei Wan School Orchestra and Band to perform in Guangzhou, Shanghai, Macau, Zhuhai, Jeju, Tainan, Taipei and Singapore. The school band has also been awarded won the Grand Champion in the 2005 Hong Kong Youth Music Festival Symphonic Band Contest.
Fung has taught at the Music Office, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, and has been invited by the Instituto Cultural de Macau to host brass workshops in Macau. He has also been an adjudicator for the Macao Youth Music Festival. Fung is currently the instructor of the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra. In the 2006 Macau Youth Music Competition, his students won all champions and runner-ups in the trumpet solo classes.
